On Saturday night, in just his second MLL game, Curtis Dickson contributed a seven-point effort on four goals and three assists as Denver (6-1) rolled past the New York Lizards (3-4), 16-11. Anthony Kelly kicked the game off with his 3,000th career faceoff, and then Drew Snider got things going on the scoring front, netting the game’s first goal from straightaway. Eric Law scored the next two goals, and would have had a third goal had it not been overturned for a crease violation. Jeremy Sieverts bounced one in from just inside the arc on a dish from John Grant Jr. to close out the first quarter with Denver up, 4-0.
In the second frame, the Lizards finally got on the board with a nice shot from Rob Pannell, but Sieverts didn’t wait too long before getting the goal back—and then some. Sieverts wound up and fired, this time from behind the arc, and recorded his fifth two-point goal of the season to push Denver’s lead to five goals.
New York continued to battle, though, and goals from Steve DeNapoli and Max Seibald cut the Outlaws’ lead to three goals with less than five minutes to go in the half. But with the half coming to a close, Dickson fired in his first goal of the night and Snider netted his second of the game to give Denver some breathing room heading into the locker room.
Before the whistle blew, the Lizards fired one more shot on goal, but Jesse Schwartzman stopped it for his 1,100th career save.
The Outlaws scored six times in the third quarter—their highest-scoring third quarter of the season. Cameron Flint and Grant both scored on assists from Dickson—then Dickson did some scoring himself. With Denver up 10-5 after New York found the net three times in the quarter, Dickson ran to his right and fired a shot between the goalie’s five-hole for a goal. Then 41 seconds later, Dickson flew through the crease and fired in a shot before landing to give him a hat trick on the night. Dickson wasn’t done though, less than a minute later he netted another goal to give him four on the night and three within a two-minute span.
Cam Holding got his only goal of the night, and his first with the Denver Outlaws, as time ran out in the third quarter to give Denver a 14-5 lead heading into the fourth.
Snider opened the final frame with his third goal of the night on an assist from Dickson, and Law scored shortly thereafter. The goal was Law’s third of the night as well, giving him 20 goals on the season and five hat tricks this year.
Charlie Cipriano came into the game to replace Schwartzman in goal with 11 minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Schwartzman finished the game with 15 saves on 21 shots (.714 save pct.).
